Club Welfare Policy

The club is committed to providing a caring, friendly and safe environment, for all of our members. So that when they participate in club activities, they do so in a relaxed and secure atmosphere.

To do this we have implemented a promoted policies and procedures, to safeguard the wellbeing of both children and adults. In order to protect them from abuse of any kind in particular the club has adopted Swim Englands Wavepower: Child safeguarding policies and procedures for clubs and these provide the foundations of our welfare policy.

Links to Wavepower documentation can be found HERE

Our aim is to make sure that these policies and procedures are known to everyone involved with the club - and that all individuals are aware of their responsibility to adopt and abide by the clubs welfare policies.

The clubs welfare officer will act to investigate any such incident (in line the recommended policy) and will implement any necessary disciplinary and appeals procedures.

Any incidents of alleged poor practice, misconduct or abuse will always be taken seriously and responded to swiftly. Our Welfare Officer and committee members will ensure that confidentiality is maintained at all times during any investigation.

1. For Divers

  • No phones to be in hand or visible on poolside or in changing rooms

    • Unless previously discussed and authorised with the coaches

  • One person on a springboard at any one time

  • When on a springboard or diving platform, divers should look at the coach immediately for direction.

  • No distracting other divers, when they are on the springboard or diving platform

  • Once feet are on the board, divers are expected to be in “dive mode”.

    • No conversing unless it is with the coach

  • Each diver must wait for a nod or a go ahead from their coach before entering the water

    • This is applicable to poolside, springboard, or diving platform.

  • A hand up at any time from any of the coaches means to immediately stop all activity. Must not enter the water until authorised to do so.

  • Shammys (Rubber towels) are only to be used for drying

    • No throwing at other divers, using to distract or whipping will be tolerated.

  • Once entering the water, divers must promptly swim to the poolside and exit the pool by the appropriate method

    • Poolside - Climb out where entered or by pool steps (they must ensure no one is expected to enter the water during this method)

    • 1M - Swim to the side of pool and climb out by the steps or board next to coach

    • If parent/guardian is not present for collection, we will attempt to contact via contact details provided on membership form.

  • Under 16 year olds, require a letter and previous agreement with the coach, to leave the Hatfield swim centre on their own.

  • No taking digital imagery (photos or videos) unless previously discussed and agreed with the coach.

3. Consequences of Breaching the Rules

Failure to adhere to the Club Rules will result in the following steps:

  1. Initial verbal warning on poolside

  2. Requested to sit out for 5 minutes

  3. Parent/Guardian infomed and asked to come and collect the diver from the poolside. They will be required to leave for the rest of the session.

  4. Continued behaviour will result in dismissal from the club. We will be unable to issue a refund.

The club operates on a yellow/red card policy. Any divers reaching Step 3 will receive a verbal yellow card. Three yellow cards will result in a red card - resulting in dismissal from the club (Step 4).

In line with the above, any serious breaches of the Club Code of Conduct may result in the club reporting to relevant authorities.
